Data Protection Bill put before Parliament

Data Protection

The new UK Data Protection Bill was introduced to the House of Lords on 13 September 2017, starting off its journey towards becoming law.

The Bill is a complete data protection system, covering general data processing, law enforcement data and national security data.

As set out in the Government’s recent statement of intent, it is intended to update existing rules, replace the Data Protection Act 1998, and implement the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (with some modifications) and Data Protection Law Enforcement Directive in the UK.

The Government has published an overview of the Bill here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/644634/2017-09-13_Factsheet01_Bill_overview.pdf
