  • Do you accept applications from graduates with 2:2 degree or from students without a Grade A at ‘A’ Level?

If you have extenuating circumstances that have affected your grades please let us know as we do take these into account, there is an area for this on the form. If you have missed our criteria by one or two grades then you can still apply, but the rest of your form will need to be very strong, we only recruit in small numbers so the competition for places is very fierce.

  • When do you start interviewing for training contracts?

We evaluate all applications once the closing date has passed and interview shortly after.

  • If I don’t get a vacation placement can I still apply for a training contract?

Yes you can, you can also use the application that you made for a vacation placement and update it to reflect changes then re-submit it. Details can be found on how to do this when you go into your application on Apply4Law.

  • I don't have any legal work experience, will this count against me?

First-hand experience of working in a legal environment is the best way to understand the career you are applying for and to demonstrate your commitment, so we really do expect you to gain some relevant experience. Even a short time in private practice is advantageous but there is other legal experience you can get, such as in-house for a company or your local council. Placements are very difficult to get because of the competition but you could do some temporary work as a secretary, admin assistant or a paralegal. If you are applying for a vacation placement you may not have had a chance to get any experience yet so make sure you demonstrate transferable skills from other areas. Open days and campus presentations are also a good way for you to find out about law firms, what they are like and if they are the type of firm you think you would like to work for.

  • What is the interview process?

Currently there are two interviews, and other informal and formal processes including a psychometric test, however we review this every year. If you are selected for an interview you will be provided with further details.
