Matthew advises individuals, families and trustees on a wide range of tax and trust issues, with a particular focus on:
- Complex onshore and offshore trust structures (including employee benefit trusts)
- Tax efficient strategies for non-UK domiciliaries
- Tax planning for business owners
- Investment taxation
- Succession planning
Matthew also has experience of contentious trust matters and complex, international probates.
Matthew is a full member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners), having completed the STEP Diploma in Trusts & Estates with distinction in 2015, obtaining the second highest overall mark globally and winning the Brendan Hall Prize. In November 2016, Matthew completed the STEP Advanced Certificate in UK tax for International Clients with distinction, obtaining the highest mark globally. Matthew sits on the committee of the STEP Central London Branch.
In the summer of 2016, Matthew was named as one of eprivateclient’s top 35 private client professionals under the age of 35. He is also recommended in the Legal 500.
Before joining Stevens & Bolton LLP in 2012, Matthew practised in the corporate tax group at Slaughter and May (where he also trained). He read Classics and Law (with French Law) at Trinity College, Cambridge where he won the Lizette Bentwich prize for law.
