CIM seminar: The Law and Social Media

Stevens & Bolton LLP today hosted a seminar in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), focusing on the use of social media and the possible legal implications.

Beverley Flynn (head of data protection and commercial partner ) and Charlotte Tillett (senior associate, intellectual property), highlighted some of the potential legal issues when using social media, including defamation (such as libel or slander), copyright and trade mark infringements, breach of confidence, contempt of court, the Data Protection Act and privacy.

The event provided some poignant food for thought for CIM members, in what is an ever developing arena.
