"I joined the IT department of Stevens & Bolton LLP in May 2011, having worked as an IT technician in a retail environment, where my role included speaking to clients and resolving hardware and software issues.

Stevens & Bolton offered me a role in a new environment with exciting opportunities and challenging experiences. I interact with a variety of different people, from all departments, making the job very varied and enjoyable. Part of my job is managing a helpdesk with my colleagues, logging all calls in order of priority and dealing with them accordingly. This enables us to properly respond to the needs of our ‘internal clients’ and provide them with an excellent service.

As well as all the opportunities and experiences Stevens & Bolton has to offer, one of the things that makes it so enjoyable is the location and atmosphere. Being close to the town with shops and restaurants, and next to the train station, the work/life balance is never far away."

"After graduating from Lancaster University with a degree in Maths in July 2010, I spent nine months working in the retail environment in the hope that career-related inspiration would strike. With no success on this front, I spoke to a friend in the recruitment industry, who found me a short-term placement with Stevens & Bolton LLP in the finance department. This placement was extended a number of times, before I was then offered a permanent position, which came with the chance to study towards a CIMA qualification - an offer far too good to turn down!

My role now includes helping prepare the monthly management accounts (which helps crystallise the theoretical knowledge gained through my CIMA studies), accounting and analysis of the daily transactions on all of our bank accounts, support to the lawyers and the monitoring of our compliance with SRA accounting rules.

The firm has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and has offered me a lot of support with both my studies and with my professional development, which has helped me to progress and earn promotion to senior finance assistant at the end of 2012."

Ann-Marie Goodbody - Head of Business Development and Marketing

"Having read French at university and passed the CPE and LPC, I qualified as a corporate finance lawyer and joined Travers Smith in 2000. After a couple of years of fee earning I decided to move into BD & marketing as that area had always been of interest to me. A highlight was the rebranding of Travers Smith Braithwaite to Travers Smith. This included changing some 2,000 items from business cards to umbrellas, launching a new website and managing sign writers well into the night. I subsequently spent time at US firm Weil, Gotshal where I focused on BD for corporate finance, private equity and capital markets and where I worked with the global network on business plans, pitches and business analysis. I then took a break from the City and set up my own arts consultancy business which focused on bringing business and arts organisations together. After the Lehman's crash, I went back to the City and joined US firm Reed Smith. I worked my way up the firm doing business development and marketing plans for various practice and industry groups, pitches, pricing, business research, training and much more. After 6 years, I was promoted to be Global Head of BD for all non-contentious practice areas at Reed Smith. My time there included a secondment to the USA, In 2014 I moved to Slaughter and May as the Head of Practice Stream Business Development. I managed a team of 6 and worked closely across all practice areas. I had had day-to-day responsibility for the corporate practice tracking the FTSE 350 on a daily basis and leading on several targeting and new business initiatives. I was also responsible for setting up the firm's client relationship management programme which had 90 clients in it when I left in April 2017.

I am currently the Head of Business Development and Marketing at Stevens & Bolton. I have overall responsibility for all marketing and business development activities of the firm across some 25 practice and industry sector groups and manage a team of 5. It's a great place to work where the culture is truly collaborative and the quality of both the work and people is as good as any City-based law firm.

In my spare time, I sit on the Development Board of English National Ballet and I am studying for a post graduate diploma in Art Law. I have the perfect work life balance and enjoy a 10 minute commute to the office!"
