Richard qualified at CMS Cameron McKenna in 1996. He spent nine years as a partner at asb law, heading up the Dispute Resolution division and latterly the Aviation team. He joined Stevens & Bolton LLP as a partner in 2013 to lead the Aviation practice and also became head of the Commercial Litigation practice in 2017.

Richard is a litigator specialising in complex legal disputes, predominantly in the aviation sector.  He has significant experience of international, cross-border litigation and asset recovery.  In the aviation sector, Richard has long experience of, for example, aircraft and engine repossession, lease and charter disputes, insurance claims, fraud and many other types of dispute. Richard is the Chairman of BACA and a member of ISTAT, ERA and the RAeS. He also works on general commercial matters, specialising in fraud, asset recovery and business protection litigation, as well as corporate commercial litigation and arbitration, banking and regulatory investigations.

Richard has a highly commercial approach to his clients, really getting under the skin of their business to provide commercially strategic and creative solutions to difficult situations.  Richard has acted as outsourced in-house counsel to provide an effective interface between the firm and its clients.

Richard is ranked in Chambers UK 2018, in which he is described by clients as "very knowledgeable, very informed and very balanced in that what he is putting forward is always from a customer-centric understanding". In 2017 he was included in Aviation Week's ‘Top Ten Leaders of European Business Aviation’ for his drive to establish standards for the charter brokerage industry, as Chairman of BACA. He is also ranked nationally by Chambers UK as a key individual in the Aviation sector, and as a key individual in Dispute Resolution in both Chambers UK and The Legal 500.
