About

Valerie has practiced environmental and insurance law for nearly 30 years in England and previously the United States. Her practice spans all aspects of environmental and climate change law.

Since joining Stevens & Bolton from City of London law firms in 2007, Valerie has advised extensively on share and asset transactions for national and international clients.

Valerie is known for her cutting-edge environmental and environmental insurance studies since 2009 for the European Commission.

Valerie is listed by Chambers as Band 1 in Environment, and by Legal 500 in its Hall of Fame as a lawyer at the very top of her profession, widely known and respected by peers and clients for her longstanding involvement in market-leading work.

  • Advised national and international clients on environmental liabilities in share and asset transactions;
  • Authored an 892-page study for the European Commission to support its evaluation of the Environmental Liability Directive and its implementation across the EU;
  • Advised AXA XL on environmental insurance policies including claims against them;
  • Authored a 260-page study for the European Commission that maps out and analyses application of the polluter pays principle to liability for environmental damage;
  • Trained environmental authorities in EU Member States in implementing and enforcing the Environmental Liability Directive for the European Commission as a member of a consortium.
