Stevens & Bolton is co-moderating at the IBA webinar: Healthcare in and from space

Stevens & Bolton's Charlotte Tillett (Head of Life Sciences) is co-moderating at the International Bar Association (IBA) webinar: Healthcare in and from space: legal rules, trends and challenges.

Combining global legal and commercial perspectives, the webinar will explore how healthcare legislation on drugs and medical devices intersects with space law, and how health and space authorities, together with leading industry players, interact on the ground (and in orbit).

Healthcare in and from space: legal rules, trends and challenges

14 September 2026, 1:00pm-2:30pm BST

Session summary: Space is no longer only the final frontier for exploration – it is fast becoming a new frontier for healthcare innovation. This webinar discussion will cover regulatory frameworks, IP, contracts, data and cyber security, telecoms, insurance and liability, and the wave of new legislation emerging worldwide to support the growth of healthcare in the space economy. The panel will consider the legal dimensions of manufacturing in space that matter most for healthcare (think biomanufacturing in microgravity, protein crystallisation and sterile bioprocessing) and how treaties and space laws govern authorisation, supervision, insurance and liability for these activities. They’ll also address the impact of the proposed EU Space Act and make a transatlantic comparison with US frameworks, and the initiative to bring in-orbit manufacturing into the legal framework for pharmaceutical products in the UK.
