Stevens & Bolton supports Rock Rail and Aberdeen Investments in connection with landmark battery-electric train project

Stevens & Bolton has supported Rock Rail and Aberdeen Investments in connection with their investment in, and development of, a landmark project to deliver Britain's first mainline battery-electric train fleet. The project will see the introduction of 29 new battery-electric trains to the TransPennine Express network.

The new trains will support the TransPennine Route Upgrade and are expected to improve passenger experience while contributing to the decarbonisation of the railway network. The trains will be designed and built by Alstom in the UK. The project includes associated charging infrastructure to support battery operation on non-electrified sections of the network.

James Floyd, corporate partner at Stevens & Bolton, commented: "We are delighted to have supported Rock Rail and Aberdeen Investments in connection with this landmark transaction. The introduction of Britain's first mainline battery-electric train fleet is an important milestone in the decarbonisation of the UK's rail network and demonstrates the appetite for investment in the sector."

The Stevens & Bolton team was led by James Floyd and banking & finance partners Matt Padian and Andrew Dodds, and was supported by banking & finance associate Jake Joyce and trainee Stephen Demery.

Stevens & Bolton is proud to enjoy a longstanding relationship with Rock Rail, having advised on its equity investments in a series of rail rolling stock projects in the UK and Europe.
