About

Andy is a trusted adviser and team player.

With nearly 25 years’ experience at City firms, he has a wealth of commercial acumen in most sectors. He combines this with a natural ability to rapidly analyse any situation, identify the issues and offer practical solutions. Even in the most complex or sensitive matters.

Clients particularly value his approachable nature and his preference for avoiding legalese when advising. Andy has a genuine interest in understanding clients, their businesses and their commercial priorities and objectives. He strongly believes that advisers can only deliver their best with this background knowledge.

Andy also demonstrates a positive, can do attitude to any situation. He guides clients through their options and partners with them at every step of the process. Little wonder, then, that many of his clients have had very long-standing relationships with him.

  • Acting on the Supreme Court case of X v CAB, the leading authority on the rights of volunteers in the workplace.
  • Advising a major global telecoms company on the employment and pensions aspects of many acquisitions and TUPE outsourcing arrangements.
  • Advising a major global broadcasting company on its employment and HR issues, including IR35, senior executive and team moves, successfully defending Employment Tribunal claims and exiting C-suite executives.
  • Successfully representing an international telecoms provider in the EAT on a complex and untested point of law under TUPE.
  • Advising a large insurance broker on the sensitive departure of an employee absent from work on long-term sickness grounds.
  • Advising an international merchant bank on its offshoring arrangements.
  • Securing a substantial settlement (of four years’ salary) for an employee of a major UK supermarket who was dismissed on discriminatory grounds.

Andy is recognised in Chambers UK for both his employment and pensions practices, having been ranked as a named individual for nearly 20 successive years. He is a member of the Employment Lawyer’s Association, the Association of Pension Lawyers and the Pensions Management Institute.

Andy Williams is my go to partner. He understands our business, is highly responsive and partners really well. His advice and counsel is excellent, taking time to explain complex points of law but also providing practical solutions and a way forward. I have 100% confidence in him.
