About

Claire provides clear and practical advice to clients. She trained and qualified in-house with a large engineering consultancy before joining a City firm to provide specialist construction advice to some of the UK’s largest construction insurers. Claire originally joined Stevens & Bolton in 2015 and returned in 2021 following a career break.

Since her return to the firm Claire has worked with contractors, developers, employers, sub-contractors, engineers and consultantscovering a wide range of construction related matters including advising on procurement strategy, standard form and bespoke contracts, as well as adjudication, litigation and various forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

Claire communicates complex legal issues in a clear manner and offers client’s practical advice to help achieve their goals. Claire’s experience working both in-house and with construction insurers, as well as with construction professionals, consultants, contractors, developers and employers, gives her a unique insight into how different areas of the industry operate, which she is able to utilise when advising clients.

  • Advising an international client in relation to the development of a new multimillion pound manufacturing premises hailed to be the largest of its kind;
  • Advising a number of contractors and sub-contractors in relation to defective cladding claims;
  • Acting for a housing association to negotiate a remediation contract for works to remedy defects under the Building Safety Act;
  • Acting for a sub-contractor to bring an adjudication regarding a fee dispute;
  • Acting for a sub-contractor defending an adjudication regarding a defects claim;
  • Drafting bespoke amendments to JCT and NEC4 contracts for both employers and contractors.

Claire holds an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution from Kings College London and has been recognised as a key lawyer in The Legal 500. She regularly writes articles on current construction topics and has been published in a number of external journals, including Expert Witness Journal.
