Markus is an experienced real estate disputes lawyer helping property investors, occupiers and developers across all sectors to manage their assets, mitigate risks and resolve disputes.

About

Markus joined from a City firm in 2015 and is an expert in freehold and leasehold property matters with particular expertise in covenants, rights over land and devising vacant possession strategies.

He regularly supports his commercial clients with their day-to-day property issues, including breaches of contract, lease renewals (both contested and uncontested), forfeiture, breaks and with issues arising out of tenant insolvency. Markus has been described by clients as a highly trusted advisor, well organised and proactive and they especially appreciate his ability to deliver complex legal advice in a clear and confident way.

Markus spearheads the real estate group’s growing international practice with his regular attendance at European real estate events.

- Advising on a £70m redevelopment scheme, providing technical advice and devising strategies ensuring the client achieved vacant possession with minimal delay;
- Acting for an institutional investor landlord in a multi-lease renewal of prestigious office premises with a total net rent in excess of £1.4m;
- Successfully assisting a major manufacturer in challenging, and ultimately significantly reducing, its landlord’s six-figure service charge demand;
- Assisting a FTSE 100 corporate occupier with disputing a six-figure dilapidations claim, consequently settling for less than one-fifth of the entire claim;
- Advising on a multimillion-pound redevelopment in relation to enforcing restrictive covenants and easements to avoid the potential for interference with these rights.
