Nicola trained at Theodore Goddard (now Addleshaws) in London and worked at Mishcon de Reya and Mundays before joining Stevens & Bolton LLP in 2011 as a partner and head of franchising and retail.

Nicola is a commercial transactional lawyer specialising in franchising and commercial exploitation of intellectual property. Nicola regularly advises both franchisors and franchisees, and her practice has a particular emphasis on advising on international expansion through franchising including direct unit franchising, master franchising and area development, as well as those international franchisors looking to import franchise systems into the UK.

Nicola speaks at numerous specialist franchise seminars and exhibitions and writes for each edition of the leading trade journal, Franchise World, as well as contributing on a regular basis to other franchise publications such as the Business Franchise Magazine, the Franchise Magazine, Franchisor News and Elite Franchise. She is the firm's designated representative for the British Franchise Association, has served on the BFA’s former legal committee and currently serves on the BFA’s Quality Standards Committee advising on compliance issues and the promotion of best practice in franchising. Nicola has been a guest Judge for the annual Franchise Industry HSBC/BFA Franchisor and Franchisee of the Year Awards on several occasions most recently in 2016.

She is a member of the American Bar Association and its Franchise Forum as well as its International Commercial Transactions, Franchising and Distribution Committee. She is also a member of the International Bar Association and its Franchising Committee.

Nicola recently advised and represented the European Franchise Federation at the European IMCO workshop on "Relations between franchisors and franchisees: regulatory framework and current challenges" to discuss problems in the area of franchising and the impact of the EU rules on functioning of the franchising.

She is listed as a leading individual for franchising in The Legal 500, which describes her as "very personable and easy to communicate with", and her knowledge of franchising as "very evidently outstanding". She has also been listed as a notable practitioner in Chambers for several years, ranked Band 1 UK-wide for franchising, which describes her as a "prompt, knowledgeable and extremely diligent" franchising specialist who is "commended for her consummately commercial approach". In addition, Nicola is listed in the Seventh Edition of ‘The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom’ for her work in Franchising Law.
