A court summons has recently been served using Facebook, for what is believed to be the first time in Britain.
An Eastbourne solicitor had exhausted all the conventional ways of serving a summons on a debtor to attend court to answer questions about their finances, and Hastings County Court allowed her to use Facebook instead. As so many people are now on social networking sites, it should now be harder for many debtors to evade service of court documents.
