Mediation before litigation in family cases

Mediation before litigation in family cases

On 22 April 2014 the Children and Families Act 2014 will come into force.

This act will make it compulsory to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) before making an application to the court in relation to any private family proceedings.

The aim of this legislation is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to find out about mediation as an alternative method to resolve their dispute. Enabling them to make a more informed decision about which method is best in their circumstances.

For further information about mediation please contact Grace Parker-White, senior associate and mediator at Stevens & Bolton LLP, on 01483 401250 or grace.parker-white@stevens-bolton.com
