SDLT – what might we get in its place?

Interesting findings from the cross-party committee looking into Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT). Unsurprisingly, the overall take away is that SDLT distorts the property market and makes getting on the property ladder difficult.  The report urges the government to consult on alternatives.  As a tax riddled with complexities, I can't see many tax advisers disagreeing!  As ever, the  issue will be how to implement change which suits political imperatives in a fiscally neutral way.  https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/17/housing-communities-and-local-government-committee/news/214163/reform-stamp-duty-to-help-get-firsttime-buyers-on-the-housing-ladder-says-housing-committee/
