Corporate social responsibility

Corporate social responsibility

Being a good corporate citizen is important to us. We aim to play a positive role in the communities which we inhabit and to carefully manage the impact of our business socially and environmentally.

Being a responsible employer is a vital part of our CSR strategy. We are committed to the issues of diversity and equality and creating a positive working environment for our colleagues.

Our CSR commitment is governed by the same objectives of excellence, innovation and accountability that we provide to our clients. That commitment covers:

  • Charitable giving

The firm and its employees take part in a multitude of fundraising activities supporting both our nominated charities and other organisations.

Our current firm charity is Challengers, a Guildford-based charity providing fun play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and providing parents and families a much needed break. At Challengers, disabled children and young people are able to have fun playing and making friends in a safe and inclusive environment, where they also develop vital social, co-ordination and communication skills (https://disability-challengers.org/).

Other organisations we have supported and/or continue to support include:

    • Breast Cancer Care
    • Cherry Trees
    • Children in Need
    • The Fountain Centre
    • halow project
    • Oakleaf
    • Oxfam
    • Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice
    • The Royal British Legion
    • Save the Children
    • Shooting Star Children's Hospices
    • Yvonne Arnaud Theatre

The firm is also a founding member of Guildford Philanthropy, which aims to inspire local philanthropy to support the development of social enterprises and to help disadvantaged and vulnerable people develop their work skills.

  • Community

We value the opportunity to give something back to the communities in which we live and work and all employees at Stevens & Bolton are encouraged to participate in community service activities.

We are actively involved with schools in our local area with employees acting as school governors, with mentoring programmes for GCSE students and with primary school reading and business simulation programmes.

  • Pro bono

We employ bright, capable and passionate people at Stevens & Bolton. Pro bono work enables our employees to use their skills and experience to enhance access to justice. We are dedicated to providing the same levels of quality in our pro bono work as we provide to our clients and have signed up to the Pro Bono Protocol to demonstrate our commitment in this area.

  • Environment

We are committed to doing business in a responsible and sustainable way and to minimise our impact on the environment.

We have an eco-team dedicated to dealing with environmental issues and which launched a "Greening the Office" initiative to promote more energy efficient practices and a more environmentally sustainable approach to our business.

In 2021 Stevens & Bolton signed up to the Green Pledge, an initiative led by the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations, which aims to minimise the impact of arbitration on the environment. Following this, we have also taken the significant step of signing up to the Greener Litigation Pledge, an initiative to reduce the environmental impact of dispute resolution.
