The Government will shortly begin an official consultation into the legal definition of marriage. Presently “marriage” in the UK is a term preserved for man and wife, with a same sex couple being able to enter into a civil partnership.
Under David Cameron’s plans, same sex couples would be permitted to marry in register offices by 2015, with no obligation placed on churches or places of worship to conduct such ceremonies.
