Stevens & Bolton LLP has advised Bakkavor Group plc, the leading provider of fresh prepared food and a FTSE 250 listed company, on its acquisition of Blueberry Foods, a desserts business owned by Samworth Brothers Limited.
Bakkavor is the leading provider in the UK’s fresh prepared food market, supplying the UK's main grocery retailers including Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury's and Waitrose.
Blueberry Foods produces a range of desserts, operating from a custom-built facility in Leicestershire and employing around 420 employees.
The acquisition builds on Bakkavor’s leading position in chilled desserts, following the acquisition of Haydens in the second half of 2018 and major investment at the Bakkavor site in Newark.
The Stevens & Bolton team was led by corporate partner James Waddell, supported by James Floyd and Mary Liu (corporate) and colleagues from across the firm’s other specialist practice groups.
James Waddell commented: “We are really pleased to have had the opportunity to work with the great team at Bakkavor again on another important and strategic M&A transaction, following on from the acquisition of Haydens at the end of last year. We hope the deal is a great success for all parties.”
