Entrepreneurs

We approach our entrepreneurial clients as we do any other – as individuals, with unique priorities, needs and objectives.

We understand, however, that if you are an entrepreneur these factors apply not just at a personal level, but involve wider considerations about the business with which you are involved.

We combine technical skill and a personalised approach with commercial acumen to advise you at each stage of your relationship with a business. From how to structure your initial and additional investments into the business and extract profit from it in a tax-efficient way, to planning for an exit or passing a family business to the next generation, we are here to advise you at each milestone.

We understand that, for entrepreneurs, planning for your involvement with your business often cannot and should not be separated from your wider personal planning. Whether putting in place a will and lasting powers of attorney, placing a business into a trust or other asset-holding structure, or providing tax advice relating to the business, we appreciate that entrepreneurs have an extra dimension to consider. We work closely with you to ensure your personal and business objectives are balanced appropriately.

Landed estates

We work closely with the owners of landed estates, their advisers and trustees in relation to their tax and succession planning needs. Rural and land-based businesses come with their own challenges and we appreciate the need for practical and commercially focussed advice, particularly against a backdrop of changing tax regimes and political uncertainty. Our ability to draw on other areas of the firm ensures that our advice is comprehensive. Our long-term approach to client relationships means we make a meaningful difference through the advice we deliver.

We have significant experience in capturing the specific tax reliefs available for estates and the business they undertake. In particular, our specialist knowledge in assets of historic or cultural significance and the tax regimes that can attach to those means we are ideally placed to help those entrusted with their custody.

Our in-house trust company Stevens & Bolton Trustees Limited, is a key part of our offering, enabling us to offer stability and continuity in the trusteeship of estates, combined with expert legal advice and an independent, strategic voice.
