  • Advising COOK on its strategic store expansion programme across the Channel Islands through both concessions and retail stores owned by the Channel Islands Co-op.
  • Advising the Monkey Music franchisor, a premium pre-school music brand, on the resales of its franchisees’ businesses.
  • Assisting Burger Boi Franchise Ltd in preparing a template multi-unit development agreement to assist it in its expansion and recruitment strategy of attracting well capitalised franchisees.
  • Advising on a complex licencing agreement between a fast food brand and a shipping company to offer the brand’s food on a number of vessels, as part of the client’s strategic focus on the growth of the brand through alternative licensing models, moving away from traditional bricks and mortar.

Franchising disputes

We help you resolve disputes in complex franchising relationships. Our specialist franchising team includes dispute resolution lawyers with experience in handling misrepresentation claims, terminating franchise agreements, brand protection and copyright issues, damages claims, and cease and desist notices and take down notices.

We are particularly familiar with how litigation, mediation and arbitration play out in relation to franchise disputes and have experience of the British Franchise Association’s arbitration scheme.

Acting for a listed corporate franchisee in a dispute with a group of 11 sub-franchisees, whose franchise agreements were subject to a mix of different European laws. The dispute concerned systemic under performance in the sub-franchisees’ operation of well-known fast food outlets.
Advising a Middle Eastern master franchisee of a well-known retailer in a dispute with the franchisor concerning expiration of franchise agreements.
Acting for the sellers in relation to the sale of a pharmaceutical business, including the evaluation of licences in and out of the company, and a significant number of co-development agreements.
Advising the script writers/producers on an exclusive option to make a TV series/film based on a well-known series of adventure gamebooks originally published by Penguin Books.
